Seller FAQ
Selling or transitioning a trades business is a major decision. Most owners have questions about confidentiality, valuation, employees, timing, and what happens after the first conversation.
Below are common questions from HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, and related trades-business owners.
Is my inquiry confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is one of the most important parts of our process.
We will not contact your employees, customers, vendors, landlord, competitors, or anyone connected to your business without your permission.
What types of businesses are you interested in?
We are primarily interested in established trades businesses, including:
- HVAC service companies
- Plumbing companies
- Electrical contractors
- Refrigeration service companies
- Multi-trade service businesses
- Related residential and light commercial service businesses
We are especially interested in companies serving Metro Atlanta, Gwinnett County, Lawrenceville, Grayson, Loganville, Snellville, Dacula, Winder, Monroe, and surrounding Georgia markets.
Do I need to be ready to sell right now?
No. Many owners reach out months or even years before they are ready.
You may be ready now, considering retirement, dealing with burnout, thinking about succession, or simply curious about what your business may be worth.
A conversation does not create any obligation.
What if my books are not perfect?
That is common with smaller owner-operated businesses.
Clean financials are helpful, but we understand that many trades businesses have imperfect bookkeeping. We look at the whole picture, including bank statements, tax returns, customer history, employees, equipment, reputation, service area, and cash flow.
Will you keep my employees?
Employee continuity is very important to us.
A trades business depends on its technicians, office staff, customer relationships, and local reputation. Our goal is to preserve the strength of the business, not disrupt what already works.
Will my customers know I am considering selling?
No, not unless and until both sides agree that customer communication is appropriate.
We understand that customer confidence matters. Any transition communication should be planned carefully and handled professionally.
What size business do you buy?
We are open to different sizes, but we are generally interested in companies with:
- Established operating history
- Repeat customers
- Service revenue
- Skilled employees or technicians
- A good local reputation
- Owner involvement that can be transitioned over time
We are open to smaller companies if there is a strong foundation and a practical transition path.
Do you only buy profitable businesses?
Not always.
We prefer businesses with positive cash flow, but we will also look at companies with fixable issues, including owner burnout, weak marketing, limited systems, tax pressure, debt pressure, or operational inefficiencies.
The key question is whether the business has a real customer base, real service demand, and a path to stability.
How do you value a trades business?
Every business is different.
We usually consider:
- Revenue
- Cash flow
- Seller discretionary earnings
- Customer base
- Repeat service work
- Maintenance agreements
- Employees
- Equipment and vehicles
- Licenses
- Reputation
- Growth potential
- Debt or liens
- Owner involvement
- Quality of financial records
After learning more about the business, we can discuss a practical valuation range and possible deal structures.
What deal structures are possible?
A transaction may include one or more of the following:
- Cash at closing
- Seller financing
- Bank or SBA financing
- Earnout based on performance
- Consulting agreement
- Transition support agreement
- Partnership structure
The right structure depends on the business, the seller’s goals, financing, and risk.
What happens after I reach out?
The process usually starts with a short private conversation.
We discuss your company, your goals, your timeline, and whether there may be a fit. If both sides want to continue, we may request basic information and continue the conversation from there.
How long does the process take?
It depends on the business and the structure.
A simple transaction can move faster. A larger or more complex business may take longer because of financing, diligence, licenses, employee transition planning, and legal documentation.
The most important thing is to move carefully and protect the business during the process.
Do you work with brokers?
Yes. We are open to speaking with owners directly or through business brokers, attorneys, CPAs, lenders, or trusted advisors.
What if I have tax liens, debt, or other issues?
We are still open to a conversation.
Some issues can be worked through as part of a transaction. Others may require more caution or a different structure. The best first step is a confidential conversation so we can understand the situation.
What makes Owolewa Acquisitions different?
We are not looking to publicly shop your business or create disruption.
Our approach is relationship-first, confidential, practical, and focused on preserving the company’s employees, customers, reputation, and long-term value.
